Antigone

It makes you wonder how much more improved the play would have been if it had been acted out to the full extent of the story. It gives a different perspective to those who have read the play. What you imagined may have looked completely different acted out.
On a side note, does anyone remember the scene where the chorus was walking around in circles and what it might represent?

  1. The Antigone reading was very interesting though they made adjustments to the original readings of the play it was still along the main concepts of the story. The actors tried to make the audience follow the concept of the play by putting their own twist to the reading.
Antigone touched on the integrity of kings and though Creon was no king he felt that his actions depicted what a king would do unfortunately for him it caused him his family and he lost all integrity.

  2. I think it would have made a great difference if it was acted out fully instead of just a reading. Also, the reuse of actors in different roles first threw me off a little bit as well so I think if this was a full production that would've made things a lot clearer. Also, I think the chorus walking around in circles maybe was to represent their thoughts as one.

  3. The scene where the chorus was walking around in circles was impressive. I think the reason they hled hands and walked in circle may be that they want to connect to each other's mind and creat sympathetic response to the content of what they sing; it is a scene that the book can not show us but the play.

  5. I think they did a good job in cutting some of the parts out because one it makes it more clear and two it makes the play shorter. I think they did a great job in explaining exactly what was the story about. I don't think they need to add the other parts because it would have been confusing like the book. About the chorus I don't know what was the reason that they were moving is circle. I actually wanted to ask what was the reason for that part. I though maybe it symbolizes strength since they were holding hands together but im not sure.

  6. For the most part, the actors did a very good job with their roles, though in my ply during the Q&A I wasn't complete in my review. I felt that Creon was too calm and emotionless during his first days as king; I understand the director's intention was to create a contrast between the beginning Creon and the final devastated Creon, but I felt this was done inaccurately and there was barely any middle ground between black and white. I also felt that the comic relief provided by the nervous guard was unnecessary because his behavior, though interesting, was too contemporary for this play, and subtracted from the play's tragical value. The singing chorus was for narrative purposes, seeing as how the play was abridged, as well as for foreshadowing the ending sequence of the play.

  7. Even though much was left out of the play due to time limitations I believe that by watching the play I got to understand it more as a whole. I did have my own vision when reading the play but when I got to see it performed my vision became more clear and distinct. A couple of the actors had to switch parts but that didn’t make it confusing at all for myself, I think they jumped into character very well and portrayed the part accurately. As far as the chorus holding hands in a circle, I believe it represents that they are spontaneous and that they represent the voice of the community. Yes the play could have been improved if it had been acted to its full extent but for what was given I believe it did very well on explaining the main points.

  8. I believe that they did a pretty good job. The outfits was meaningful, they worked well with the limited space, and most important, they act with great passion.
Watching this play is a very different experience to me than reading the book. It gave me a sense of actually being there, being one of the witness of this great tragedy. Although they were reading the script most of the time, they at least memorized the dramatic scenes, which meant a lot to the audiences.

  9. i feel that the actors would not have to try so hard to portray what is going on in the story through words, i know it is a reading and that is how it is suppose to be but if it were a full production i feel that the characters would feel more in place with the settings and not have to overact. for example, when the chorus is walking around in a circle. i feel that for the reading it was a little distracting but i get why they had it that way. like i said if it for a full theatrical production the actors would be a little more relaxed in how they were portraying the story.
