After viewing this clip in class, the only think i really have to say is that it did not look consistent with the time period. in my opinion it looks more like a 1960's clip.
I didn't like the whole idea of the wind, storm, and lighting to represent God. It almost reminds me of a horror movie, rather than a awakening or the birth of moral guidelines. However, considering that it was done in 1923, the message came across clear.
I thought that it was well done. I believe it represented the seriousness of the commandments and what it means to so many. I also found it to be interesting because there were no words spoken but we got the concept of the story. The fire works and lighting made the audience view the movie in a serious way at that time. Modern technology makes it funny looking because our minds are conditioned to looking at color television with advance special effects, so we would view it differently; Hence changing our views on the effectiveness of the film.
This movie was a great understanding towards media in 1923, the way directer used lightinning and storm to represent power of God. The whole idea of the movie was to show commandments from God to Moses so He can deliever them to mankind and the way directer uses colour, symbols and expresion was great.
I think the movie recreated the message well and the movie was understood. Some of the special effects where a bit over the edge, for example the whole explosion introduction to the 10 commandments, instead of the trees burning. The director did a great job in such an old movie or at least it seems old.
